AFFIRM
YOUR POTENTIAL
by Sandra Mosley
It is a basic human need to make a positive contribution to the
world and to our fellow beings, as well as to improve and enjoy
our personal lives. We each have something unique and special to
offer. I call this our potential or higher purpose.
Our sense of personal well being is a reflection of how much or
how well we are expressing our potential. We know, in our hearts,
what our higher purpose is, but we often do not consciously acknowledge
it. As we learn to be who we are, we tune into our higher purpose,
making visible on the physical plane our divine potential.
Creative visualization is not just a technique. It is a state of
consciousness. It is a consciousness in which we realize that we
are the continuous creator of our universe and take responsibility
for it.
Many of us grew up hearing the expression "mind over matter".
At that time it was just a theory. Now it is a scientific fact.
The body - mind connection has been proven and is used to assist
the healing process by the medical profession and in the training
of athletes.
Whatever image from your mind you pay attention to, especially while
relaxed or highly focused, changes not only your feelings and emotions,
but also the cells and chemistry of your body.
You've had the experience of being in a good mood, doing whatever
you're doing, when suddenly an image gets triggered in your mind,
abruptly changing your mood. Holidays, for example, are laden with
past memories, some good, some unpleasant. As these memories go
through our minds, the images they evoke can take us out of the
now and into the feeling of the past.
Your attention is your life force directed at something. Like a
flashlight in a dark room. Whatever you shine your light on is what
you are aware of - or how you perceive where you are. What we pay
attention to is what we are aware of and in turn becomes our reality.
We control our attention! We may not be able to control the external
events in our lives, but we do control how we choose to experience
those events. Affirmations are a way of controlling our attention.
BASICS OF CREATIVE VISUALIZATION
The Law of Attention
Whatever you focus your attention on increases. Pay attention to
what you don't have or what you view as difficult and you will feel
lacking and negative. Give attention to the miracles already happening
in your life and you will feel blessed.
Energy is Magnetic
The energy of a certain quality or vibration tends to attract the
energy of a similar quality or vibration. Someone calls you as you
are thinking of them or you just happen to pick up a book which
has exactly the information you need at the moment.
Form follows Idea
Thought is quick and light and precedes manifestation. An artist
first has an inspiration and then executes the work. You think you'll
make dinner before you actually begin cooking.
The Law of Radiation or Attraction
What you put out into the universe will be reflected back to you.
As you sow, so shall you reap. What happens when you smile at a
stranger?
CREATING AFFIRMATIONS
The necessary elements to creating a personal affirmation are
DESIRE, BELIEF & ACCEPTANCE . They are the basis of INTENTION.
The clearer and stronger your intention, the more quickly and easily
your affirmation will manifest. Every affirmation you create must
be able to pass the test of intention. To determine the effectiveness
of your affirmation ask yourself these questions:
Do I truly in my heart desire this goal to be realized?
Do I believe it is possible to achieve this goal?
Am I willing to accept this completely?
Remember the caution - "Be careful what you ask for - you might
get it."
The most effective affirmations are short and simple. Use power
words that involve your emotions and senses. Phrase your affirmations
in the present tense using positive statements. Create something
new and fresh - you are not changing, redoing or denying what already
exists.
Repetition is the key to using your affirmations effectively. Relax
and focus your attention on your affirmation. Meditate. See yourself
acting out your affirmation; feel yourself doing or being your affirmation;
imagine your surroundings, etc. Write your affirmations down and
in front of a mirror read them out loud every night before bed.
Call on them mentally throughout the day.
Affirm your potential. Determine your spiritual purpose, including
your personal pattern for development. Recognize your strengths
as well as your weaknesses and learn to reframe them in a positive
manner. Incorporate affirmations into your daily routine.
The astrological symbolism in your natal chart can assist you to
define your potential. Each planet and point can be delineated by
its sign, decanate, dwad and degree position, giving clues to your
purpose along with information as to how and where you express your
individuality.
