Pluto in Capricorn by Boots Hart, CAP

PLUTO IN CAPRICORN (2008-2023)

PART FIVE: FUTURE FOUNDATIONS

With Pluto in Capricorn, concerns and conversations around the world and in your home and head are going to come back, time and time again, to two key ideas: what works and what's real or the reality of the situation. No more will life be filled with ideas, grand plans and imaginative theories without someone asking 'exactly how are you going to do that?'

The energy behind this question is not as aggressive or cynical as it sounds - although yes, it is going to sound fairly aggressive, as Capricorn lends a sort of 'impervious' quality to most dynamics, and when the energy stirred by Pluto's passage gets into this quadrant, the result is not always pleasant. Still, this quality is meant to have useful purpose, as its underlying point is to get you to consider how to get things done and to steel yourself for making enough of an effort in order to a.) achieve and, b.) set a good example for others.

In point of fact, those are the two keys to success under Capricorn no matter what venue this energy plays out in. Also associated with business, the dispensing of justice and that most societal of all personal institutions - marriage - government is the key Capricorn social institution and it pretty much encapsulates the good and bad of typified Capricorn energy. A good government leads, but after setting rules and providing an infrastructure, all governments the world over encourage their populations to thrive as unique individuals. Capricorn is thus about tangible basics: providing and utilizing them. Expressed thus through Pluto (i.e., Pluto-Charon) every member of each generation is sent a message as to where to apply their own personal drive to change and enact change.

One of the important things to consider here is that Pluto is now moving into the opposition sign to Cancer, accelerating the sense of a vast 'world change' which indeed began when Pluto moved into Cancer - when humanity had come to comprehend enough about mechanization and basic power generation to bring about the true birth of our 'modern technological world.' This shift into a technological format was the last act in an even bigger cycle - that of the astrological age. Astrological ages are each 2,160 years long.

If you were alive and listening to the radio in the 1960's, you may remember a song about the Age of Aquarius, which is what we're moving into. And with Capricorn being the sign preceding Aquarius, Pluto's transit of Capricorn may be seen as a finalization of the outgoing Age. Beyond that, the Pluto in Cancer generation (those born under the opposition to Pluto in Capricorn) will be the last generation to live entirely under the Age of Pisces, an age of mystics and agnostics, dominance, submission, mercy, altruism, denial and incarceration (also known as self limitation) Éall of which are manifestations of peculiarly Piscean challenges.

As the last generation born wholly encapsulated by the Age of Pisces vibration, Pluto in Cancer folks (1914-1938) are likely to be torn between wanting to do every last thing they can and feeling they're losing a grip on what the world is about. The best course here is to follow that you know best. Whatever your deepest involvement in life has been, start and build from there.

Pluto in Leo (1938-1958) folks are being challenged in new and particular daunting ways, calling upon each person to make good on their promises in substantial and tangible ways. This passage is difficult for all Baby Boomers - no less for those who have worked hard as for those who have eschewed responsibility. Best results come now from best efforts, plain and simple, and how far you get (or how much you gain) depending on how much you've invested to date.

Yuppies born under Pluto in Virgo (1958-1972) are in for an evolutionary time when that which is already known will either expand of its own accord or be disrupted/dissolved by forces beyond one's control. Where life expands, their task is going to be to keeping up with changing times while staying effectively organized - and making hard choices where necessary. Where principle avenue(s) of effort becomes untenable, totally non-functional or disrupted by forces beyond one's control, this may well be a karmic call to make changes. Taking cues from results is the key - don't try to make the unworkable work as doing so will cost you dearly and merely delay getting back on track.

Pluto in Capricorn tests the viability of long term plans of the Pluto in Libra (Gen X: 1972-1983) generation, starting with whether they've made plans yet or not. Many haven't, as this is a generation which is having a very hard time figuring out what it wants to be when it grows up. Yet as Pluto enters Capricorn, the first thing which will hit Gen X is a sense of time's passage - and how they react to the idea that youth doesn't last forever will likely govern much success and failure. Those who accept the full responsibility for self-governance will be challenged to build from the ground up but in time learn that the step by step process of bringing dreams into reality is actually the reality which makes dreams come true.

Pluto in Scorpio (1983-1995) people are immersed in the adventures of young adulthood and are being asked to make choices, and make something of those choices. This challenge comes in three parts. First - will they accept the responsibility for making their own choices and earning the consequences which come with those choices? Second - are they ready to commit to a set of values built on internalized self worth? Third - are they willing to change or curb some of the day-to-day urges so common in their generation? The more realistic Pluto in Scorpio people can be, the better off they will come to be in time.

Though young, Pluto in Sagittarius (1995-2008) natives are in a period when conceptualizing the balance between reasonable and worthwhile is particularly important. Being a generation greatly influenced by physical conditions, effort should be taken to teach these natives discernment, without which they may adopt habits which aren't in their best interests. With a little bit of guidance aiming at teaching these folks to think long term, Pluto in Sagittarius people will learn why purposeful use of resources is best and how to use this idea profitably no matter where life takes them.

PART SIX: THE PRACTICALITY OF GOALS

Under Pluto in Sagittarius, possibilities seemed dazzling - and to some, the dazzle was the allure. That quality came from the fact that Sagittarius is a fire sign - fire signs are all about the idea and ideal, and Sagittarius in particular - the image and theoretical benefits of adhering to the greater idea(l). Pluto in Capricorn changes this dynamic by grounding life in stark reality. The goal becomes the aim and being able to produce more important than the packaging. Methods, practicality, productivity, consistency and value for the effort and money will become functional benchmarks. Demands for quality will challenge the Pluto in Sagittarius urge to splurge and emphasizing 'having it all.'

One of the hardest parts of this period will actually be the selecting of the goal you drive for and the differentiating between ways you can get there. In almost every area of life, choices will need to be made, and most of the best of these will require some degree of 'giving up' something so that something else can get focused on. In this sense, Pluto in Capricorn is a very long lesson in prioritization, as figuring out what you can do first so as to empower the second, third and fourth things is essential.

Being that this energy is Plutonic and therefore often obsessive, don't be surprised if one of the hardest things to govern is keeping things which aren't center stage in functional order. You can't just ignore your health (for instance) because you're focused on your career as without your health, a career can't be maintained. This effort to grow while maintaining infrastructure is likely to become a world-wide question, with one interesting manifestation being the necessity for nations to stop concentrating so much on each other that they ignore the needs of their people. The metaphysical objective of this is to eventually transform what is now a competitive world community into an interactively supportive world community, but don't count on that process coming to fruition for some time.

Meanwhile, each of the generations faces a different sort of internal challenge. Those born under Pluto in Cancer (1914-1938) will do best to acknowledge the constricts of time and opportunity yet not interpret this as negative, but rather as a mechanism which focuses them on finding new, more effective, efficient ways to get things done. Knowing what you're doing and the ramification of your choices is essential for maximizing profits through utilization of experience.

Baby Boomers born under Pluto in Leo (1938-1958) will experience a period of life where they will either need to balance the precepts of work and play or find ways where these two ideas can be combined - which is without doubt, the optimal solution. The more productively creative Baby Boomers are, the better off they're going to be, a concept which is doubly important seeing as this period not only has a great bearing on wealth and internal satisfaction, but a metaphysical connection to their health status, too.

Pluto in Virgo's Yuppies (1958-1972) are entering a vital period of transition where many early goals will either come to fruition or be sufficiently in progress that new challenges are important if this generation is going to continue in its tradition of monumental vitality. Yuppies have been given a unique opportunity to build a stable life platform atop which they can then create something totally different - something which will have long-term contributory value to their world. The price is deciding to undertake the shift, as all such secondary 'careers' are likely to be substantially different from what built their lifestyle. Choosing not to participate in this option doesn't mean suffering, but it will likely result in feelings of missed opportunities later in life.

Experiences which expand one's horizons by dissolving preconceived notions of 'success' change the Pluto in Libra Gen X tribe (1972-1983). Through disorientation, this generation acquires a potent understanding through which they can make not just their life - but all of life - better. The question thus becomes one of motivation: those who escape their ego gain from what they do; those who aim for approval or personal pleasure end up burdened by their own nature.

Questions of acceptance test Pluto in Scorpio (1983-1995) people by presenting situations which require them to live up to high standards while choosing associates equal in ability but not necessarily adept in like fields. This, combined with a dawning recognition that life is a process composed of many steps, causes Pluto in Scorpio folks to lay competition aside and begin making stable, profitable choices from which long-term personal satisfaction ultimately grows.

Development of self worth motivates Pluto in Sagittarius (1995-2008) people to hone their abilities through tangible effort. The native curiosity of this generation needs to be protected but channeled productively or nothing will ever get done, and once this generation gets into a habit of not applying self-discipline, they're a handful! The solution here is old fashion cause/effect lessons, but parents (guardians, teachers, mentors, etc.) shouldn't try to focus on the concrete goal as much as its value (doing your chores properly earns trust and other privileges). Pluto in Sag people need to set the standards for themselves, so don't over-nurture, spoil or relieve them of responsibility, lest you create resentment or teach them that they're inept. Encourage, don't lead.
