Soul Astrology
New Moon in Aquarius
14 February, '10

Using the New Moon moment as a birth chart for the following month, my comments are meant to provide an attitude that maximises our ease and growth during that time. Please don’t worry about understanding the astrology - just go for the drift.

Dear People,

A shorter version of this New Moon letter, with chart itself and the Contemplation, can be seen and heard - the quickest way in is to open my website www.soulastrology.com and click the green button which says ‘Margaret on youtube.com’. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

My visit to Scholes, Leeds, on 5 and 6 March, is getting closer. I think the workshop is almost full now, but there are still some spaces for readings. The person to contact is Gwen Hanson on 0113-2655810 or e-mail gwenhanson@talktalk.net. The subject of the workshop is ‘SELF AND SERVICE’ and how these two can be compatible in your life.

Last month

Jupiter in Pisces seems to be emphasising what has been gathering in our unconscious space, emotionally and physically – many people are into clearing their homes of what has suddenly become an intolerable amount of ‘stuff’ – clearing space for what you really want to be surrounded by.

In case you felt the last couple of weeks were particularly intense, I want to share with you Philip Sedgwick’s explanation and description of the last full Moon. He wrote: (in his GALASTRO newsletter)

"This full moon is a perigee moon, meaning the Moon is full when at perigee - its closest proximity to Earth in its orbit. The moon reaches perigee every 27.55 days . . . and every now and again, the full moon and perigee coincide. Last month the full moon appeared 14% wider and 30% brighter. This effect maximizes gravitational pressures between the moon and Earth while they stand in more or less direct alignment with the Sun. This commonly brings higher tides, stronger storms and more than the average zaniness from those who feel lunar effects most strongly."

This New Moon in Aquarius

This month is largely about bringing new inspirational solutions to extensive human suffering (New Moon on Chiron/Neptune all at 25/26 Aquarius). The world is watching the earthquake zone, and hopefully learning from the difficulties in helping supportively. Let this be a practice run for whatever happens next, wherever on our Earth the need arises. What is learnt in this situation will make future needs much more smoothly answered.

This is a time for the healing of any loss of faith in ourselves, in humanity as a species, or in the wonderful love of which all is a manifestation. Any inspiration this month needs to be listened for in quiet moments, and carefully registered, because we may not immediately see its relevance to what’s going on. (The New Moon itself doesn’t connect directly with the rest of the planetary pattern, and neither does its ruling planet, Uranus.) In order to remember the received wisdom from dreams and meditations, we would do well to put them in note form on the wall, so they are there to inform us when the need arises.

Valentine’s Day!

This is an opportunity to feel and express that complete love and appreciation from the heart that does us all so much good. It’s very appropriate that Venus should be in Pisces at this time, because Pisces allows loving relating to be unlimited, unconditional. Wonderfully, this year, Venus meets Jupiter at this time (exact on 17 February) emphasising the emotions, and potentially expanding our hearts beyond recognition! We could tap into loving everything, although that’s not easy to do. A more accessible thing to do was shared with me by a very dear friend of mine in Hawaii. He suggested that we can use Valentine’s Day to focus on anyone we love, not just the person you feel romantic about. So choose someone you can stretch to loving unconditionally, family or friend, and let yourself really experience the feeling and the sharing. As we are beginning with Valentine’s Day, we can play with this idea all month!

Let love in

This month, love (or, oddly, the drive for financial security!) becomes the reconciling force in all those situations where we are trying to accommodate, or orchestrate, changes. We may find it easier to let go of cherished principles or possessions when faced with others’ needs being greater than our own, or, more selfishly, when we recognise at last that we will benefit from the extra space. (Saturn squaring Pluto is suggesting that they have to go - Venus/Jupiter sextiling Pluto, and Mercury trining Saturn, all helps.)

Once we release the block of possessiveness, we can see how to help those in need. Letting go and giving become joyful experiences. After all, what we tend to cling onto keeps us separate from others; whereas sharing brings us close - we feel the touch of spirit in our relating (Mars in Leo sextiles Saturn, together pointing at Venus/Jupiter).

Wisdom from a detached point of view

From 10 February we’ve had the opportunity to step back from central issues, which is necessary to see what’s going on more clearly (Mercury into Aquarius). So we will be more focused, and communicating better, about how we are handling these testing situations. Potentially we are able to make more concerted efforts, and that’s when the joyful energy makes our service so much more effective. (Mercury opposite Mars.)

Another thing: most people have a tendency to criticise those in the front line – the leaders. As long as their intentions are kind, respectful, humanitarian, we need to allow leaders to direct operations. The Aquarian approach of everyone-being-equal-in-value can produce a sense that any leader is just being autocratic, whereas the true Aquarian way is to allow those with the widest vision to lead, while the rest of us assist them using our own abilities. Let the able direct operations, and only confront them when their decisions fall short of humanitarian ideals.

This month (with Mercury trine Saturn) communication should be clear and competent, with potentially inspired ideas finding the way to manifest – as long as we don’t let negativity block the view.

And we will all be checking our decisions to make sure that our exuberant moments don’t endanger our health or well-being. It is not unkind to yourself to resist eating an entire box of chocolates in one sitting; this is the kindness of appropriate discipline!

. . . just a thought

Wherever you have been feeling blocked, let every aspect of the situation float into your mind. Accept each bit as what is, and bring it into your loving heart. Without the push and pull of desire, fear and anger, all the pieces can fall into their correct relationship with each other. Life will move things along.

Contemplation for this New Moon in Aquarius

In the long run

there is nothing to fear.

But human experience tends to be of the moment by moment

content of awareness,

and you feel it like sand through the hour-glass

slipping out of your control.

Who are you when you grasp at the sand?

And who are you really?

Relax that ‘grip’ - your fearful hold on survival -

and feel the flow of life moving constantly

from spirit into everyday activity.

Be with the truth of each moment, accepting and open.

Watch the myriad ways life appears,

as the dance of light through dust motes and river beds -

and let your heart love it all.
