Retrogrades and Shadow Periods
The shadow period occurs before and after the retrograde period. It begins when the planet first enters the area of the zodiac that it will retrograde through, and ends when it reaches the end of that zone.

In a threefold process, we experience what will need to be reworked (beginning shadow period); we review, rethink and release (retrograde period); and return to the situation with a new approach (ending shadow period).
