Cancer Lunation
July
2 - 31, 2008
The
New Moon in Cancer on July 2 begins a 29.6-day cycle with an emphasis on property,
housing, family, and emotional security. Receptivity, initiative and perseverance
are vital to success. Act now to establish your independence and set things in motion.
Use this cycle to get in touch with your past conditioning, to communicate with
your parents and to nurture the seeds of intention you planted in April. These activities
and your intuitive responses to them will be your foundation for the next nine months.
This is a time to prune for growth. Remember your priorities and eliminate activities
that do not support your goals.
Affirm:
Change nurtures my development. Love sustains and supports my home and family. I
Am secure in the Heart of the Divine.
Sabian Symbol:
"A Chinese Woman Nursing A Baby With A Message"
The degree symbolism
of this Cancer New Moon suggests the birth of vital new ideas, which need to be
nurtured with a different attitude or tradition in order to develop to their full
potential.
Metaphysically,
the baby symbolizes a new valuable, yet vulnerable, creative project or idea, which
requires nurturing to reach maturity. The message carried implies essential knowledge
in service to humanity. That the woman nursing the baby is Chinese could represent
the influence of either a foreign perspective, an ancient tradition, or according
to Rudhyar and Hill, the Tibetan mysteries and the Dali Lama.
Marc
Edmund Jones in his early writings on the Sabian symbols referred to the baby
as having a 'glorious nimbus of divine incarnation', rather than a message. To clarify
the meaning, in his later work, The
Sabian Symbols in Astrology, he renamed the symbol as used here and wrote, "When
positive, the degree is a gift for bringing the more Godlike resources or superior
powers of self to a point of real community service, and when negative, completely
unreasonable demands for recognition."
Perhaps to reinforce
the importance of the message, authors Rudhyar and Hill both retitled this symbol
"A Chinese Woman Nursing A Baby Whose Aura Reveals Him To Be The Reincarnation
Of A Great Teacher."
Dane
Rudhyar, in his book An
Astrological Mandala, implores us to "look beyond common appearances to
find the hidden character", saying the keynote of this degree is "the
revelation of latent worth in an experience once it is seen in its deeper meaning."
Sabian
Symbols as an Oracle author Lynda
Hill says about this degree, "In this situation messages of hope for the
future are coming through younger and more vital elements. There may be an opportunity
to learn important lessons from younger beings."
